Why we built RedactPDF.io
Since 2022, we’ve built secure redaction software through AnteRedact, our enterprise platform trusted by organizations with large redaction workloads and strict compliance requirements. We created RedactPDF.io for individuals and small teams who need a reliable way to redact PDF files but can't justify an enterprise contract for their limited redaction needs.
So we built RedactPDF.io – a simplified, free version of our core technology, delivering secure, privacy-first PDF redaction powered by the same team and infrastructure behind our enterprise solution.
Our enterprise platform is built for scale, enabling organizations to automatically redact thousands of documents, integrate automated redaction into their own workflows, and manage high-volume redaction projects efficiently. We continue to invest heavily in our enterprise platform, while making the core features available for free for the public through RedactPDF.io.
Since launching in August 2025, usage has grown more than 30% month over month, highlighting strong demand for a secure way to redact PDF free online.

Our infrastructure runs on Scaleway, a European cloud provider headquartered in Paris. We use Scaleway's Paris data centre. Scaleway operates exclusively in Europe and is fully subject to EU data protection regulations. Your data never leaves Europe and is never processed on infrastructure subject to US jurisdiction.
We take the security of your documents seriously. Every layer of our infrastructure, from how files are encrypted before they leave your browser to how keys are stored separately from the data they protect, is designed to ensure that your documents are handled confidentially.
Encryption in transit
All traffic between your browser and our servers is protected with TLS.
Encryption at rest
Documents are encrypted with AES-256 client-side before upload and remain encrypted at rest on our servers.
Key management
Encryption keys are stored separately from the encrypted data using derived keys (HKDF). Compromising one component is not sufficient to access your documents.
AI models
We do not use external LLM providers. All AI models are proprietary and run on the same secure infrastructure as the rest of the redaction process.
Human access
The redaction pipeline is fully automated. No human ever reviews your files: upload, redact, download, delete.
Data retention
Both the original and redacted files are deleted once you download the result. We retain no copies. Documents are never used as training data.
